Formatting the Reference List according to DSTU 8302:2015 (National Standard of Ukraine)
General rules and citation principles:
-
Numbering and order: Sources are numbered with Arabic numerals. Unlike IEEE, in DSTU the list is formed alphabetically (first Cyrillic sources, then Latin) or in the order of mention in the text (depends on editorial policy, but alphabetical order is classic).
-
Authors: The Surname is indicated first, followed by initials (e.g., Kovalenko O. M.). In the simplified version of DSTU 8302:2015, it is not necessary to duplicate authors after the slash (/) if there are no more than three.
-
Punctuation: Instead of the dash (—) sign, which previously separated areas of description, it is now recommended to use a regular dot (.).
-
Number of pages: For books, the total number of pages is indicated (e.g., 250 p.), and for articles — a specific page range (e.g., pp. 15–22.).
Examples of formatting various types of sources:
-
Article in a periodical (journal): [1] Verner M. M., Smith J. K. Modern automation systems in robotics. Journal of Technical Sciences. 2025. Vol. 15, No. 4. P. 112–120. https://doi.org/10.xxxx/xxxxx

Formatting the Reference List (References) according to IEEE Style standard
The reference list is formatted according to the international standard of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE Style). General rules and citation principles:
-
Numbering and order: Sources are numbered with Arabic numerals in square brackets, e.g., [1], [2]. In the References list, sources are arranged not alphabetically, but in the order of their first mention in the article text.
-
Authors: Unlike many other styles, in IEEE, initials are placed before the surname (e.g., J. K. Smith). If there are several authors, they are listed separated by commas, and the conjunction "and" is placed before the last one.
-
Titles of articles and chapters: Enclosed in double quotation marks (" ").
-
Titles of publications (books, journals, conference proceedings): Italicized. Common terms in the titles of technical journals and conferences are usually abbreviated (e.g., Ann., Int., Proc., Trans.).
-
DOI: The DOI (Digital Object Identifier) index is mandatory if available and is added at the end of the bibliographic description as an active link.
Examples of formatting various types of sources:
-
Article in a periodical (journal): [1] N. Verner and J. Smith, "Modern automation systems in robotics," Journal of Technical Sciences, vol. 15, no. 4, pp. 112-120, Nov. 2025. https://doi.org/10.xxxx/xxxxx

Formatting the Reference List (References) according to APA standard
General rules and citation principles:
-
Numbering and order: The References list is not numbered with digits. Sources are arranged strictly alphabetically by the surname of the first author. In the text, the citation is given not in square brackets with a number, but in parentheses with the surname and year: (Smith, 2024).
-
Hanging indent: Each source is formatted with a hanging indent: the first line starts from the margin, and the second and all subsequent lines are indented to the right (usually by 1.27 cm).
-
Authors: Surname, Initials are indicated (e.g., Smith, J. K.). If there are two authors, an ampersand (&) is placed before the last one. In APA 7th edition, up to 20 authors can be listed.
-
Publication year: Always placed in parentheses immediately after the authors — (2024).
-
Case and italics: Article titles are written in sentence case (only the first word is capitalized). However, journal titles and book titles are italicized, and each significant word is capitalized. The volume number is also italicized, but the issue number is not (in parentheses).
-
DOI: Formatted exclusively as an active link: https://doi.org/...
Examples of formatting various types of sources:
-
Article in a periodical (journal): Verner, N., & Smith, J. K. (2025). Modern automation systems in robotics. Journal of Technical Sciences, 15(4), 112–120. https://doi.org/10.xxxx/xxxxx
